A Chinese character with a "kusakammuri" on the top
has something to do with "grass".)
then, you'll find it changed into another character,
"ichigo=a strawberry".
Yes, the character is pronounced "ichigo".
Mother's milk was like a sweet strawberry.
This is a delightful memory dear to me.

メロディに合わせて訳出してゆくと、
英文の方ではこんな情報も追加できるのだ、
ということが分かる。

Greg Irwinさんは、
「お父さんが椰子の島にさようならをして、
（それから）日本へ帰ってくるのだ」
という原詞の意味内容を、
もしかしたら、
取り違えて英訳されたのかもしれない。
「椰子の島」という
日本語には
「日本からは遠く離れた南方熱帯地域の島」
というような含意があるから、
an island across the sea
は
an southern island
across the sea far away form Japan
くらいの語感表現にする方がよいのかもしれない。

・賢治は音に敏感であった：
『原体剣舞連（はらたいけんばいれん）』
で
太鼓の音として横文字を使って
「dah-dah-sko-dah-dah」
と繰り返している。
hという息の破裂音を入れている。
だから「ダッダッダッ、ダダスカダッダッ」
とリズム感がでてくる。
「ダダダ、ダダスカダダ」
となっては躍動感がなくなる。

・「雨ニモマケズ」の詩：
賢治の原稿では
「ヒドリノトキハ　ナミダヲナガシ」
とある。
花巻地方の方言で
「ヒドリ」は
「日雇い」
を意味する。
冷害のために
お米がとれず
みんな泣きながら
つらい日雇いの出稼ぎに出た、
という意味です。
（「ヒデリ＝日照り」なら
天気がよくて
お米がとれることになります）

・好きな言葉
「見えるものはしばらくにして、
見えざるものは永遠なり（聖書）」：

永遠の真理を求める
求道心が生きる力になっている。
こんなに長生きできるのも、
舞台で生きるエネルギーを
賢治からいただいているから、

超高齢社会を迎えて


いつしか古稀を越え、75歳以上からとされる後期高齢者層に加わろ
うとして歩みつつある現在、80代を迎えるのも夢ではないかもしれま
せん。平均寿命というのは、0歳児の平均余命を指しますが、これが
1947年当時は男性50.0歳、女性は53.9歳であったものが、2006
年には男性79.0歳、女性85.8歳と急速に長寿社会に向かっています。
これには医学の進歩と合わせ、平和の時代が続いてきたことが大きく寄
与しています。

しかも、これと並んで平均余命も着実に伸びています。2006年簡
易生命表によれば、65歳の人はあと18.4年(女性は23.4年、以下同様)、
70歳では14.6年(19.1年)、75歳では11.3年(15.0年)、80歳では8.4
年(11.3年)、85歳では6.0年(8.1年)、90歳では4.3年(5.6年)生き
られると推定されています。また本年の予測では、14歳までの年少人口
は13.5%、15歳から64歳までの生産年齢人口は65%、65歳以上の老
年人口は21.5%(うち75歳以上は9.9%)ですが、20年後にはそれぞ
れ9.9%、59.2%、30.9%(19%)と見込まれています。

更に現在65歳以上の人のうち、介護を必要とする老人は約20%(そ
のうちいわゆる寝たきり老人の割合は約5%、100万人強)、約50%は仕
事等はリタイアしているものの自立して普通の生活が可能な人、残りの
約30%は心身共に健康で社会的に貢献できる人たちとされています。
私自身20余年前に妻が重度の中途障害者となり、その世話をする傍ら、
退職後は横浜のシティガイド・ボランティアをしたり、三井グループの
退職者有志で構成する三井ボランティアネットワーク事業団の国際交流
部門に参加し、ここ10年ほど、中国・インドネシア・ネパールからの留
学生と順次交流を続けてきました。

今や社会の中心は戦争を知らない世代によって占められています。殊
に最近では障害者や高齢者は存在する意義はないかの如き政策が次々に
打ち出されてきております。私共戦争をいささかなりとも実際に体験し
た世代の者は20世紀の負の遺産である戦争体験を語り継ぎ、貧しさや苦
境のさなかから得た貴重な体験を次の世代に正しくしっかりと伝え、戦
争はいかなる名義にもせよ、道徳的罪悪であり、世界に戦争はあるべき
ではない、ということを徹底させていく義務と使命があるのではないで
しょうか。それが現代に生きる高齢者の緊急かつ重要な役目ではないか
と考えている次第です。
